The leaf of this Mimosa was given a slightly more extreme heat treatment. You can see that the response starts more rapidly and progresses faster than the leaf in the previous movie. In addition, you will notice that once the leaflets close along the stimulated part of the leaf, the signal propagates further and activates motor cells at the base of the petiole of the entire leaf and the base of the midveins resulting in a rapid downward folding. This is followed by the progressive folding of the rest of the individual leaflets.
