Night-blooming Cereus
(Epiphyllum sp.)

Night-blooming Cereus plants open their flowers in the evening so they can be pollinated by night-flying insects like moths. Like many moth-pollinated flowers, the Cereus flower is white. The Cereus plant is a close relative of the common Christmas cactus. However, while Christmas cactus flowers will remain open for many days, flowers of the night-blooming Cereus are are short lived. This flower started to open around 9:00 pm and was fully opened by 10:30 pm. Frames were captured every 4 min and are played back at 6 frames per second.
