Narcisus Flowers
(Narcisus sp.)

Narcisus flowers open in the Spring with daffodils. They can easily be forced to flower early in pots by storing potted bulbs in a refrigerators for several week in the winter. The pot of plants shown in this short movie was filmed over the course of about 5 days at 1hour intervals. In narcisus and daffodils, once the flower buds reach maturity the bud bends and the flower expands. The enlargement of the flowers result from cell expansion. The narcisus variety shown here is know as tete-a-tete and was purchased at a local supermarket in March.
